SunshinePHP is a PHP community event

Recently we overheard SunshinePHP being grouped together with other commercial “for profit” events and conferences, which prompted us to write this blog post to clear things up.  The SunshinePHP Developer Conference is NOT a profit driven event, and is actually a community led event by developers, for developers.  Early on we tried to make this more public, but it appears the message was lost with everything the conference contains. (we’ve made it too good)

We understand how this confusion could happen.  After all, the conference is being held at a large hotel, will be bringing top speakers from around the country and around the world, contains a hackathon led by Mashery an industry leader in API development, has many great sponsors who helped us finance all of the greatness.  We are committed to putting on a “commercial grade” conference while also managing to keep the registration price low at only $219.95 per head. (Commercial conferences tend to be 3 to 4 times that price.)

How can we do this?  The answer is “community”!  Adam Culp and the SoFloPHP Users Group have all been working hard to get everything in place and organized. No company, or individual, will profit from this event.  Any profits from the conference will go 100% into the user group and PHP community.

So please help us out by spreading the word, and/or attending, to make this the greatest PHP event Florida has ever seen.  The last time there was a PHP related conference in Florida was way back in 2007, and 5 years is far too long.

We look forward to seeing you here.
